Presentation of National Flag and Proclamation of Independence.

posted 2 Dec 2015, 12:23 by Kilmyshall Ns

There were some very special visitors in school on Thursday, Sgt David O’Flaherty and Private Eoin Stapleton arrived to present the school with the Irish flag and Proclamation of Independence to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising next year.

The youngest child in the school was presented with the National flag and the eldest child received a copy of the Proclamation of Independence.

Sgt O’Flaherty was very happy to see the half century Proclamation, which was presented 50 years ago to the school on display in our school hall.

The children had an opportunity to ask questions and as well as learning about our National flag and 1916, they learnt some very interesting facts about army life.

To round off a wonderful morning two children played “Boolavogue” on the banjo and accordion, then the children sang “Grace”, written by written by Sean and Frank O'Meara (famously performed by Jim McCann)to close the ceremony everyone stood proud and sang “Amhrán na bhfiann”.

It was a very memorable morning and we will proudly hang our newly presented national flag in March 2016 along with every other National school in Ireland.

New Two Classroom Extension

posted 9 Apr 2014, 13:01 by Kilmyshall Ns   [ updated 27 Apr 2014, 08:28 ]

Kilmyshall National School is delighted to announce that we will be extending the school building with two new classrooms this year. The project is currently at the planning stages and we hope to begin building in July 2014.
We were also fortunate enough to receive funding as part of the Summer Works Scheme to upgrade the electrics of the existing school building, We aim to run a number of fund-raisers in the coming months in order to extend the school's car-parking facilities and erect a glass canopy to act as an 'external corridor' for the school.

This is the beginning of a very exciting phase of the school's history. . .

Please keep an eye on our website for regular updates!

Below is an idea of how our school will look when the classrooms are finished..

Kilmyshall NS Dress Funny for Money!

posted 2 Dec 2012, 12:46 by Kilmyshall Ns   [ updated 8 Jan 2013, 11:21 ]

Kilmyshall was overrun by witches, wizards and ghosts this week as Kilmyshall National School held their annual fancy dress day. The school decided to raise funds for the very worthy children’s charity Barnardos. Kilmyshall NS joined many schools from all over the country in dressing up on Friday 26th October and collecting money to donate to Barnardos.

As part of the Greenschools project the school offered prizes to the children who made an effort to make their own costume using recycled materials from home. Lots of effort went into all of the costumes and it was very difficult to choose the best ones. All of the children and staff of Kilmyshall NS had a “Witches’ Walk” around the community of Kilmyshall to show off their wonderful costumes. The children had a great day playing traditional Hallowe’en games and raised in excess of 200 for charity.

The school’s charity work will continue in the run up to Christmas with the Teamhope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The children and their families are busy making up shoeboxes of gifts for children in less fortunate countries.

Safety Day in Kilmyshall NS

posted 21 Mar 2012, 14:19 by Kilmyshall Ns

On Thursday, 15th March, we had a Safety themed day in our school.  The local firemen came to school and brought the fire brigade along too!  A local Garda visited also.  Both groups talked to us about road safety and fire safety.  The children were given hi-visiblity jackets and armbands by the RSA to wear.  We got a tour of the fire brigade and some pupils even got to use the water hose!  The whole school then went on a walk around the locality to promote road safety.  A big thank to the firemen and Garda who made our day possible and enjoyable.

Our school has been chosen to be one of five finalists in the Irish Independent 'Building for the Future' national competition.  However, as of yet, we do not know what we have won.  Four of the five finalists are guaranteed a prize of a Smartboard worth €5,000, a flat screen TV and a sound system.  The top prize is €20,000 for the school!!  We are thrilled to be one the five finalists!  A huge 'Congratulations' to Mrs Fox and the 3rd/4th class (2009-2010) who put a huge amount of work into the project.  Thank you to Joe and Catherine O'Reilly, SuperValu, Bunclody who so kindly gave of their time to help us complete the project.

We look forward to November 10th when representatives from the Irish Independent will visit the school to present the prize!!!
