Proclamation Day March 15th 2016

posted 17 Mar 2016, 05:09 by Kilmyshall Ns

On March 15th we commemorated the Easter Rising of 1916 by having a flag raising ceremony. Our class introduced the seven signatories of the proclamation stating where they were from, what part they played in the rising and when they were executed. The youngest boy and girl in the school raised the flag at 12 o'clock.

Hunting Mini-Beasts

posted 17 Mar 2016, 04:57 by Kilmyshall Ns   [ updated 17 Mar 2016, 04:58 ]

Second and Third class have been learning about mini-beasts that live in water and on land. We did a mini-beast hunt at our insect hotel just before our Easter holidays. We found earthworms, flies, ants, beetles and centipedes. We used pooters and containers to catch the animals and later after we had identified them we released them back into the environment.

Lego Workshop

posted 17 Mar 2016, 04:51 by Kilmyshall Ns

We had great fun making robots at the lego workshop. We had to follow the legend to find all the parts we needed and then we followed the instructions on how to put all the parts together. We used motors and batteries to make our robots move.

Biodiversity theme: Bird Feeders

posted 20 Nov 2015, 11:24 by Kilmyshall Ns

The Green school committee is working on a biodiversity theme this year.

In keeping with this theme we have made bird feeders by recycling plastic bottles and using spoons as a perch/feeder.

We will be placing our new feeders throughout the school gardens/green areas.

Hopefully we will see lots of birds make Kilmyshall NS their winter home and they will enjoy the seed that we filled our bird feeders with.

Come visit our Art Gallery

We have explored the theme of our local area through art. We painted pictures of the village pump, we drew pictures of our local church and we printed images of Mount Leinster.

We have also worked on the theme of trees in art. We used fabric to show the autumn leaf colours. We made clay dishes in leaf shapes showing the veins on the leaves. We used autumn leaves, tracing paper and card to make lanterns. Have a look.

We made pots out of clay to experience what it was like for Stone Age people who used clay pots. We painted them in bright colours.

Our class have been learning about warm and cool colours and looking at how they are used in art. We also explored how shades of a colour can create a 3D effect when painting our stars.

We have been looking at the work of Pablo Picasso and noticed the angular shapes in his art. We then decided to to create our own angular world using triangular prism shaped pieces of wood.
